Education
Youth attend our on-campus education program which is under the supervision of the local Tri-County Intermediate Unit. Gannondale is a recognized PRRI educational provider and receives funding directly from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through Act 30 and Title I. All teachers are certified.
This agency is committed to the educational process. Youth are strongly encouraged to attend school regularly since this is a clear expectation from the moment of their admission. School progress is constantly monitored. Reports are made on a regular basis to the placing agency. All records regarding attendance, grade level, course material and achievement are made available to the school system including specialized education plans if needed.
Youth are evaluated at the time of admission to determine appropriate grade and skill levels. Subsequent to testing these youngsters are placed in a classroom that can best meet their current academic needs. If a youngster meets certain criteria, attending an off-campus school may be a possibility.
Students that are on IEP’s are educated within our classrooms along with regular education students. Their curriculum is modified when necessary to meet their individual needs. If a child comes to our program on an IEP we maintain their goals. A multidisciplinary team works together to identify incoming students who are eligible for Special Education services, as well as students who are in need of being identified and an IEP is then developed. If the student’s needs cannot be met by our agency, we contract those services through the IU#5.
All grades become a part of the student’s permanent transcript and credits are issued to be counted toward graduation.
We offer a variety of specialized classes geared directly to the youth in our care, including driver’s education for youth who are of age to obtain their driver’s permit, victim impact, social skill building, GED preparation and classes geared specifically toward female health.
We offer a summer program each year that all youth attend. It is designed to enrich the experiences of youth through artistic activities, physical education, reading and math programs, computer literacy, specialized cooking classes, summer employment and field trips with a focus on cultural enrichment and environmental protection.
