Individual Counseling
Treatment planning for each resident includes the development of positive coping skills and reduction of unacceptable behavior via the theories of behavior modification and cognitive behavioral therapy. Consequences for inappropriate behavior are intended to teach and emphasize a focus on pro-social responses. An emphasis is placed on therapeutic relationships between counselors and residents to ensure that the skills taught become inherent in the youngster’s functioning. Residents are taught to become critical thinkers and learn to be self-reliant.
Counseling Services are offered to youth throughout the day to help them move from task to task, cope with anxiety producing events, intervene and resolve personal issues and develop pro-social skills.
Each youth in our care is assigned an individual counselor who is responsible to help them move beyond the issues which necessitated their placement through regularly scheduled counseling sessions.
Life Skills taught are dependent upon the resident’s ability, and range from personal care to care of surroundings, banking, apartment searches, resume writing, post high school searches and career planning. These plans are individualized based on a youngster’s intellectual and emotional ability to understand the material, the nature of the presenting problem and any other issues identified during the course of treatment.
