The value of Open Communication is:
- To empower everyone to speak their own truth.
- To resolve conflict and negotiate boundaries as individuals and as a team.
The trauma-informed goal of Open Communication is to develop the ability to use words for feelings, resolve conflict, and negotiate boundaries.
There was a "Thought of the Day" which was shared with the Gannondale community each morning in March. The purpose of this is to keep staff and residents continuously thinking about the concept of Open Communication.
For example:
“In summary, the two persons in conflict, each feeling blocked by the other and unable to speak directly with each other about their differences, set up substitute channels of communication through other members of the staff, through superiors, and through patients.”
